WWF Zambia Country Office | Lusaka
Innovating the future of tech solutions in Zambia.
INTRODUCTION:
The World Wide Fund for Nature Zambia Country Office (WWF Zambia) is part of WWF International, a network global organization that operates in more than 100 countries. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature by conserving the world’s biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
With funding from the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) through the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), WWF Zambia is implementing the Climate Adaptation and Protected Areas (CAPA) project. The goal of the CAPA project is to strengthen the resilience of people, ecosystems and biodiversity to climate change impacts by implementing nature-based solution (NbS) in and around selected protected areas. In Zambia, the project is being implemented in selected sites within the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZATFCA), specifically in and around the Mosi Oa Tunya and Sioma Ngwezi National Parks
Climate change has affected the amount of rainfall received in the KAZA landscape. Droughts and prolonged dry spells have accelerated degradation of riverine areas in the landscapes. The low rainfall received in the area is not sufficient to recharge the underground streams and aquifers due to increased surface water runoff in the degraded parts of the landscapes. To address the problem of degradation and reduce surface runoff, CAPA interventions will focus on increasing tree and vegetation cover as well as water harvesting in the landscape.
This Request for Bids is focused on the supply of assorted fruit tree seedlings, which will be used by people in selected communities to establish fruit tree orchards that will contribute towards increasing food and incomes sources as well contribute to assisted revegetation of degraded agricultural lands.
