JOB DETAILS:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Expert to join our team for a short-term assignment, the duration of the Project Inception Phase. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in undertaking research, data analysis, and report writing, with the ability to deliver high-quality research outputs (policy briefs). Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa considered essential with prior experience in Zambia, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) being an asset.
Key Responsibilities

Design research interventions on topics relevant to the objectives and priorities of the project, including, but not limited to, the AfCFTA, challenges faced by women-led MSMEs and regional value chains.

Collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data using a variety of research methods and techniques.

Prepare comprehensive research methodologies and tools to guide the approach to the research component of the program.

Prepare a list of potential activities aimed to support beneficiaries in all 3 target countries with an emphasis on their ability to undertake research on relevant thematic topics and dissemination of the research.

Collaborating and establishing connections with research institutions and/or think tanks to ensure project research activities are aligned with organizational goals and objectives and lists of potential project stakeholders is developed.

Stay abreast of current trends, developments, and emerging issues in relevant sectors, and incorporate this knowledge into research objectives.

Provide technical assistance and support to colleagues and partners on research-related matters, including research design, methodology, and data analysis.
Job Requirements

Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field (such as Economics, Trade, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related discipline).

10+ years’ experience in designing and delivering research programs in Africa, experience in DRC, Mozambique and/or Zambia considered an asset.

Experience of designing research initiatives focused on trade facilitation, regional value chains etc. would be beneficial.

Experience of working with national research agencies and institutions and think tanks.

Experience of undertaking on-the-ground primary research and delivering research/policy papers based on the findings.

Proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

Excellent writing skills, with a track record of producing high-quality research reports and publications.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate findings effectively.

Knowledge of implementing gender and social inclusion into research programmes.

Understanding of the AfCFTA would be desirable.

Understanding of Global Affairs Canada programs desirable.

Familiarity with research ethics and best practices for ensuring the integrity and validity of research findings.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Fluency in English; proficiency in French and/or Portuguese is a plus.

Willingness to travel within the region, as needed.
