Support for Refugee Teacher Peer Researchers – 2025 to 2027
M31 Research is recruiting a Zambia-based Research Advisor to support refugee teachers from The Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola participating as peer researchers in a research study.
The aim of the research, being conducted from July 2024 to March 2027, is to understand how refugee teachers in Zambia can be included in national education systems in ways that enhance their agency and well-being. Up to eight teachers who are refugees in Zambia, will participate in a training providing an introduction to research: four weeks in-person time and approximately 40 hours online, over two years. Through the training, the teacher refugees will become ‘peer researchers’, able to conduct interviews and focus group discussions, keep reflection logs, participate in data analysis, and the dissemination of the research findings, conclusions and recommendations.
Description of the Role
The consultant will play a vital role in supporting the participation of refugee teachers as peer researchers in a study on refugee teacher inclusion. The advisor will bridge linguistic and conceptual gaps by reviewing training materials for clarity and translatability, and by facilitating the interpretation of complex research concepts such as wellbeing and agency within the local cultural and linguistic context.
Beyond training, the advisor will provide in-country support to ensure that peer researchers are equipped and confident during the data collection and analysis phases. This includes resolving logistical challenges and acting as a liaison between refugee teachers and other research partners.
