Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to join our mining operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, training personnel and implementing safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement safety policies and procedures – This includes creating and updating safety protocols to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.

Conduct safety audits and inspections – Regularly assessing the workplace to identify hazards, risks, and areas for improvement.

Investigate incidents and accidents – Analyzing incidents and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.

Provide safety training and awareness – Conducting training programs for all employees on safety procedures, regulations, and best practices.

Maintain safety records and prepare reports – Keeping accurate records of safety activities, incidents, and training programs, and providing reports to management.

Collaborate with management – Working with management to promote a safe working culture and address safety concerns.

Assess and control hazards – Identifying and managing potential hazards, including toxic fumes, explosive gas mixtures, and other workplace risks.

Ensure proper storage of dangerous materials – Implementing procedures for the safe storage and handling of hazardous substances.

Coordinate emergency procedures – Assisting in the coordination of emergency responses, including rescue operations, firefighting, and first aid.
Qualifications and Skills:

Full grade twelve certificate
-
Certificate or better in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role within the mining industry.

Strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and related regulations.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

In possession of a First Aid Certificate (Chamber of Mines).
