Reporting to the Surveillance and Access Control Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing value adding support, influence and management skills to the Security Manager and all LMC operating departments in order to maintain the company’s licence to operate through development and sustainability of sound relationships between Security Department and key regulatory, policy and implementation arms of the Government of Zambia.

Your duties & Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: –

  • Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying at LMC.
  • Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the General Manager and management team.
  • Actively promote, monitor and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed.
  • Identifying the risks in their work area and using the correct controls.
  • Reporting to the Supervisor immediately any actual or potential unsafe conditions or activities, mishaps, incidents, accidents, injuries or illnesses in the workplace.
  • Assisting new employees in the application of the proper work procedures and practices.
  • Using personal protective clothing or equipment as provided.
  • Reporting any defective or damaged personal protective clothing, equipment, or gear, and returning the item to the Supervisor for replacement or repair.
  • Complying with instructions given pertaining to the use of personal protective clothing, equipment or gear or any matter in relation to health and safety
  • Not interfering with anything that has been provided in the interest of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Not engaging in any duties that require a certificate or written authorisation unless the relevant certificate or permit is held.
  • Not attempting any task unless they are trained, capable and competent to safely perform the task.
  • Cooperating fully with any rehabilitation program to assist recovery from injury or illness for themselves or any other person.
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Ensuring environmental risks of tasks are assessed and mitigated.
  • Adhering to environmental procedures to ensure good housekeeping, resource conservation, spill prevention and the appropriate disposal of wastes.
  • Reporting all environmental incidents to supervisor after implementing immediate corrective action.
  • Promoting environmentally sound work practices in peers and contractors.  Informing persons in work area (employees, contractors and visitors) of LMC’s Environmental Policy and Practices and notifying supervisor if persons refuse to comply.
  • Develop and maintain a team structure that adheres to Barrick’s Organisational Framework policy, enables teamwork and personal development while focusing on the achievement of results.
  • Ensure training and coaching is provided to all employees, with specific attention to National and Local employees as part of the Company’s Training and Localisation Plan.
  • Ensure all members of the team have clearly defined accountabilities and roles and that individual development plans are in place to enable goals to be achieved.
  • Ensure all members of the team receive feedback on their performance and participate in formal performance review processes.
  • Develop a succession plan for direct report roles.
  • Assist in implementation and management of Barrick’s programme for graduate professionals.
  • Review and improve systems based on the monitoring, reporting and improvement ideas of teams.

To be considered for the position, the applicant must have the following ;

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • A Degree in a security or social science related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years practical experience in security, law enforcement, military or public safety department with 5 years or more in a senior management and advisory role
  • Highly developed acumen for providing high level policy and strategic advice on matters preferably in a statutory background
  • Experience managing security operations in Sub- Sahara Africa will be an advantage.
  • Advanced investigative capabilities in regard to commercial crime.
  • Experience in municipal town management and security will be advantageous.
  • Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Zambian drivers license or be able to obtain one.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Competent in incident/accident investigation
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
  • High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
  • Experience in managing costs and budgeting
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
