VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT: SENIOR METALLURGIST – OPERATIONS
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed employee for the position of Senior Metallurgist – Operations to join the versatile Process team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Metallurgical and Technical Superintendent, you will be responsible for monitoring plant operational performance and to ensure achievement of optimum and cost-effective metallurgical performance.
Your duties will include but not limited to the following:
Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness. Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures and contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives as directed by management.
Assisting the Metallurgical and Technical Superintendent in providing the leadership necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry standards and any applicable legislation.
Monitor plant performance against key performance indicators for optimized plant operations, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
Assist the Metallurgical and Technical Superintendent in developing and improving metallurgical systems to ensure optimal plant utilization and recovery.
Accurate forecasting of consumables (Collector, frother, Flocculant, Depressant, Lime, 60mm and 125mm steel balls) to avoid stockout.
Ensure all consumables (Collector, frother, Flocculant, Depressant, Lime, 60mm and 125mm steel balls) efficiency are within budget.
Reviewing the process plant costs on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to ensure that costs are managed effectively.
Review expenditure monthly and ensure all variances to budget are investigated and explained.
Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plans to achieve these gains.
Provide leadership to the shift metallurgists, liaise with operations and maintenance, to ensure the achievement of optimum metallurgical performance.
Continually review every aspect of plant operational activity to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and implemented.
Ensure Instream analyzers (ISA) are in perfect working order. Calibration sampling to be done as per schedule to generate data base for prevailing mineralogy and ensure that performance of regression analysis is done to apply new equations.
Ensure all metallurgical critical spares are readily available.
Work with Process training Specialist to develop Metallurgical training and assessment modules for Process operators.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
Full Grade 12 School Certificate
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.
Member of EIZ and registered with ERB.
A minimum of 6 years with metallurgical roles within mineral processing showcasing progression of responsibilities.
Strong leadership skills to lead a team of Metallurgists and collaborate with other departments.
Good communication skills to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrate ability to analyse and troubleshoot complex metallurgical issues.
Must have a valid Driver’s licence.
