Job description:
Overall Job Purpose
-
Reporting to the Superintendent, TSF & Dams Technical is responsible for directly leading a team of professionals linked to water dam management scopes.
-
The senior specialist must manage field and desktop tasks associated with gathering, post-processing, reporting, and communicating critical information needed to control, plan, and forecast Dam Operations activities.
Specific Job Responsibility

Monitor the dam’s behaviour and implement dam safety programs for dam operators.

In collaboration with the Contractor, ensure the correct functioning of the different monitoring systems installed in the dams.

Collect data from monitoring systems daily and analyse it to evaluate dam performance and stability. This involves interpreting data trends, identifying anomalies, and evaluating potential risks.

Based on data analysis, assess the risk of potential problems and develop strategies for risk mitigation and emergency response in collaboration with the help of the dam safety engineer based at the head office.

Prepare specific documentation related to on-site technical monitoring (for example, Site Instructions, Weekly Reports, Monthly Reports, Monthly Meetings, etc.)

Continuous evaluation of the results of monitoring, management and preparation of the corresponding weekly and monthly reports;

Work closely with other engineers and stakeholders to comprehensively understand the dam’s condition and develop effective monitoring and maintenance strategies.

Proactive coordination with the Dam Safety Engineer.

Assist the Superintendent, TSF & Dams Technical, in supervising the development and implementation of best-practice work breakdown structures and report coding specific to Dams requirements.

Assist Superintendent, TSF & Dams Technical, in pursuing standardisation and streamlining to improve efficiencies in reporting, including continuous improvement of tools and techniques.

Experience required to perform in this job

Extensive knowledge in dam safety management, assessments and monitoring

Training roles for large dam projects and good experience developing and implementing dam safety management programmes.

Must be familiar with conceptual and numerical models linked to water dam management.
Qualifications
-
High professional degree in civil or dam monitoring engineering (M.Sc. or higher)
-
5+ years of work experience in dam safety management in site supervision for large dams
-
Grade 12 with a minimum of 5 passes
-
All qualifications must be certified by ZAQA
