ABOUT THE POSITION
USAID/Zambia seeks a Sr. WASH Advisor to provide water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) technical expertise to USAID/Zambia’s Office of Economic Development and Environment (EDEV), as requested. This role will be onsite in Lusaka, Zambia for up to 6 months.
Responsibilities

Assess health risks within the WASH context and implement strategies to address them in collaboration with stakeholders.

Support and enhance existing WASH programs, offering technical advice and assistance to partners on WASH promotion for effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly implementation.

Contribute to budgeting and provide technical input for program financial management.

Supervise technical and support staff, ensuring their training needs are addressed.

Develop educational materials for both staff and affected communities.
Qualifications
-
Technical experience in international development and project implementation related to water/WASH.

Demonstrated expertise and ability to investigate and provide consultative services on a broad range of technical questions and policy issues related to sustainable WASH service delivery.

Demonstrable familiarity with sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the areas of water/WASH.

Provide general technical assistance to the Mission’s WASH portfolio.

Proficient analytical skills that demonstrate an understanding of the current concepts, priorities, and issues in program design, procurement, and management.

Highly developed written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal communication and team building skills to ensure effective coordination within USAID and effective advocacy of Agency positions externally with both specialist as well as non-specialist audiences.
Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of experience in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) technical roles.

Demonstrated experience in a developing country context, preferably in Africa.

Experience working in complex, dynamic, multi-faceted, fast-paced environments.

Experience working and collaborating with U.S. Government agencies and private sector organization, including officials with international organizations, foreign and domestic government officials, and development partners.

Experience in written and oral communication involving coordinating, negotiating and motivating individuals to take action.

Demonstrated ability to work with teams, often with high pressure and time constraints.

Proficient in Google (Docs, Drive, etc.) and Microsoft (MS Word, Excel, etc) applications.

Strong written and oral communication skills; skilled at analyzing and presenting information through reports and discussion to effectively support senior level officials responsible for providing guidance and direction across the interagency and to work across teams and with various levels of leadership.

Ability to work collaboratively with team members at all levels as well as inter-agency colleagues in the United Status and Africa, U.S. and African government officials, donors, private sector officials, and implementing partners.

Willingness and ability to be in-country for the full duration of the assignment.
