Purpose of the Role
The Superintendent, TSF & Dams Technical, will be responsible for overseeing the technical team under the TSF and water dams to ensure compliance with world-class quality standards. The role involves working closely with TSF Operations and Maintenance, consultants, and design engineers to develop and implement the life-of-mine tailings strategy and maintain best practices for tailings deposition, water management, and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities

Legal and Safety Compliance
-
Fulfill legal responsibilities under Zambian Mining Regulations.

Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety procedures to ensure the safety of personnel.

Conduct safety inspections and ensure training compliance.
-
Tailings and Dams Management
-
Collaborate with design engineers and process plant teams to establish the life-of-mine tailings deposition strategy.
-
Lead the implementation of TSF design and document the ongoing construction process.
-
Ensure that tailings deposition infrastructure, methods, and operations align with life-of-mine requirements.

Risk and Performance Monitoring
-
Manage the TSF and Water Dams risk register.
-
Ensure freeboard, rate of rise requirements, and access routes are maintained, and implement remedial actions as needed.

Compile and submit daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring reports.

Contractor and Resource Management
-
Effectively manage contractors to ensure equipment availability and safe operations.
-
Develop and control operational and capital budgets.

Regulatory and Quality Compliance
-
Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Oversee the construction of dams to ensure they meet approved designs and standards.

Operational Excellence
-
Identify and prioritize plant housekeeping efforts to ensure a clean and organized workspace.

Optimize safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) practices in the area of responsibility.

Drive initiatives to improve equipment performance and reduce bottlenecks.

Leadership and Collaboration
-
Lead, mentor, and develop the TSF Technical team.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline.

Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is an advantage.

Membership eligibility with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and Engineering Registration Board (ERB).

All qualifications must be certified by ZAQA.
Experience
-
Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in TSF operations.
-
At least 5 years in a supervisory role.
-
Proven expertise in project management, embankment design, and quality control.

Experience with earthmoving and construction equipment.
-
In-depth understanding of metallurgical, mechanical, and civil engineering principles.
Key Competencies

Knowledge of production and maintenance strategies for large-scale mining operations.
