Job description:
Purpose
To safely execute electrical maintenance and installation work according to prescribed standards and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Operational
-
Adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the role and responsibilities.

Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Zambia.

Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
-
Ensure employees work in compliance with H&S (e.g., isolation, lockout, and tag out), quality, and environmental standards and procedures.

Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Installation and Maintenance
-
Oversee and employ best practice maintenance techniques and procedures for the maintenance and optimum performance of the equipment.

Install new electrical systems, and replace old, faulty, or redundant systems as per the company and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.

Ensure and document all electrical safety settings to conform to safety requirements.
-
Ensure that all electrical equipment has the correct hardware interlock and safety parameter settings for effective and safe operation.

Conduct regular audits to ensure protections are still valid and relevant for each piece of equipment.
-
Adhere to the company’s planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
-
Effectively maintain the electrical equipment with minimal effect on plant production.
-
Undertake daily corrective actions through formal workplace inspections.
-
Supervise and participate in the execution of maintenance plans in the Process Plant.
-
Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are planned and scheduled via a computerised maintenance management system.

Ensure the update of the database of maintenance activities of work performed.
-
Provide reports on maintenance activities and equipment performance.
-
Monitor and report on component wear and tear.
-
Supervise and provide practical hands-on, technical, and supervisory support for maintenance personnel daily to maximise production and efficiencies and optimise costs.

Review and report to the Coordinator on plant design deficiencies and equipment performance, constantly seeking efficiency/operability improvements.

Enforce housekeeping standards in all designated work areas.
Reporting and Record Keeping
-
Compile detailed reports on all activities, plans, costs, and labour.
-
Report all incidents immediately to the Superintendent.
-
Ensure that all safety logbooks are checked and signed according to procedure.
Stock Control
-
Ensure that stock levels of electrical equipment are maintained in the warehouse.
-
Create new stock for all critical items to ensure minimal effect on production in the event of a failure.
Tools and Audit
-
Oversee the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within your section.

Record and control all replacement of tools.
-
Maintain the highest safety standards on the condition and usage of all electrical test equipment.
Training and Development
-
Provide and schedule all necessary training for all employees to comply with all safety standards and statutory compliance.

Identify needs for specialised training requirements within your area.
-
Coach and mentor subordinate staff through skills transfer.
Performance Management
-
Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback, and coaching to achieve business plans and production goals.

Identify training opportunities that will provide depth and versatility for employees in the team.

Promote a positive employee environment ensuring a continuation of a solid working relationship with all employees
Other Duties
-
Perform any other duties as required by the Electrical Superintendent.
Qualifications
-
A Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical Engineering and/or related Trade Certificate.
-
EIZ & ERB Membership/Registration.
-
Knowledge of PRONTO or other enterprise systems and maintenance management systems.
-
Good leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
-
Strong cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance shortfalls, equipment bottlenecks, and implementing corrective and preventative action plans.

Proven ability to identify, analyse, and understand equipment requirements.
-
Strong understanding of technical, production, and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.
-
Able to analyse data and provide clear and accurate operational maintenance performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.
-
Computer fluency is a must.

Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
-
Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, and piping drawings.
-
Valid LV Driver’s Licence.
Experience
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance operations in heavy industry, particularly concentrator plants.

Minimum 2 years of leadership/supervisory experience.
-
Leadership or Supervisory Training courses.
