2. NON-ACADEMIC POSITIONS
2.1 SYSTEMS ENGINEER (1)
JOB PURPOSE:
To supervise and undertake the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure in order to support the operations of the University.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
-
Participates in the preparation of the section and individual work plans in order to have organized work flow of activities and output to track sectional and individual performance.

Undertakes effectively the installation, configuration, updating and provisioning of ICT systems in order to support the operations of the university.
-
Undertakes the provision of ICT support services in order to aid the operations of the University.
-
Undertakes maintenance of ICT hardware and software in order to support the running of ICT computer system.
-
Undertakes constant design and redesigning of key University technology solutions through innovation in order to understand, validate and or develop new systems.
-
Supervises effectively human resources in the section in order to achieve the objectives.
-
Participates in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports in order to track operational performance.
Technical Skills:
-
Design, develop, and implement scalable and efficient systems and infrastructure.
-
Analyze and optimize existing systems for performance and scalability.
-
Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define system specifications.
-
Develop and maintain technical documentation for systems and processes.
-
Implement and manage security measures to protect data and systems.
-
Monitor system performance and implement necessary updates and improvements.
-
Participate in the planning and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
-
Design and implement robust systems backup and recovery solutions.
-
Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
-
Utilize version control systems to manage code and configuration changes.
-
Implement and manage Radius for network authentication and security.
-
Design, implement, and manage virtualization solutions using Proxmox, VMware, and Hyper-V
-
Stay updated with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies,
-
Proficiency in systems architecture and design.
-
Advanced use of Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) and Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019) operating systems.
-
Knowledge of network protocols and network management.
-
Strong understanding of virtualization technologies including Proxmox, VMware, and Hyper-V.
-
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
-
Familiarity with database management systems (SQL, NoSQL).
-
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and tools.
-
Experience with backend programming languages (Python, Java, C, Node.js),
-
Knowledge of RESTful API design and implementation.
-
Familiarity with microservices architecture.
-
Understanding of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
-
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GilLab CI/CD)
-
Knowledge of message brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
-
Experience designing and implementing backup and recovery solutions.
-
Familiarity with backup software and technologies (Veeam. Veritas, Acronis).
-
Knowledge of data replication and offsite backup strategies.
-
Understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices for data backup.
-
Proficiency with version control systems (Git, SVN).
-
Experience managing code repositories and configuration changes.
-
Knowledge of branching and merging strategies.
-
Experience implementing and managing Radius servers.
-
Knowledge of Radius protocols and authentication mechanisms.
-
Understanding of integrating Radius with other network services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
-
Full Grade 12 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) credits, including English and Mathematics.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
-
Aminimum of three (3) years of practical work experience in a reputable organization.
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory.
-
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
-
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and accuracy
-
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
-
Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Cisco Certified Network Professional, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate) are highly desirable.
