Job Summary:
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all tax-related matters for the organization, ensuring full compliance with Zambian tax laws and regulations. This role involves preparing, managing, and optimizing tax returns, coordinating with external auditors, and advising management on tax implications and strategies. The Tax Manager will also oversee compliance with corporate tax obligations, VAT, PAYE, excise duties, and other applicable taxes related to petroleum operations and retail activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance and Reporting:

Prepare and submit accurate tax returns, including corporate income tax, VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, and excise duties, ensuring timely submission and payment.

Ensure compliance with Zambian tax regulations and liaise with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance across all business operations.

Tax Planning and Strategy:

Develop tax-efficient strategies to optimize the company’s tax position.

Advise management on the tax implications of business decisions and transactions.

Identify tax incentives and opportunities applicable to the petroleum and filling station industry.

Audit and Reconciliation:

Facilitate tax audits and coordinate with external auditors and ZRA officials.

Prepare reconciliations and documentation to support tax filings and audits.

Address and resolve tax-related queries and assessments.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

Implement and maintain strong internal controls for all tax processes.

Ensure that all documentation related to taxation is accurate and up-to-date.

Advisory and Training:

Provide guidance and training to finance staff on tax matters and compliance procedures.

Keep senior management informed about tax risks and opportunities.

Record Keeping and Documentation:

Maintain organized and accurate records of all tax-related documents.

Ensure proper filing systems are in place for easy retrieval and reference during audits or assessments.
Job Specifications:
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.

Professional certification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is preferred.

Member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants
Experience:
-
Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax management, preferably within the petroleum, retail, or related industries.

Proven experience handling corporate tax, VAT, PAYE, and excise duties.

Experience liaising with tax authorities and handling audits.
Knowledge and Skills:

In-depth knowledge of Zambian tax laws and regulations.

Familiarity with petroleum sector tax obligations and excise duties.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, or other ERP systems).

Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
