Call for applications for Technical Specialist in Mining for the Industrial Development Corporation Limited (IDC).
Industrial Resources Limited (“IRL”) is a special purpose vehicle wholly owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (“IDC”) for the sole purpose of exploiting dormant natural resources within the Republic of Zambia, allowing for exploration and mining of strategic critical minerals and eventually their commercialization whilst enhancing job creation as per IDC mandate.
IRL currently owns two large-scale exploration licenses in Mwinilunga District, Northwestern Province, with inferred reserves of gold, cobalt, and copper. IRL is in the process of transferring additional 40 large scale licenses from the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development (“MMMD”).
IRL is positioned to act as an investor in the mining sector cutting across primary production, beneficiation, refining, and value addition.

Roles and responsibilities
The roles and responsibilities of the consultant will include the following:

Conducting thorough technical due diligence on mining projects being considered for investment including assessing geological data, mining methods, resource estimation, and technical feasibility studies to evaluate the potential risks and returns of the investment.

Identifying and evaluating technical risks associated with mining projects, including geological risks, operational risks, regulatory risks, and environmental risks.

Collaborating with investments analysts to develop financial models for mining projects, incorporating technical data such as production estimates, operating costs, and capital expenditures. Analyzing the financial viability and potential returns of the investment based on various scenarios and assumptions.

Participating in the valuation of mining projects, considering both technical factors (such as mineral reserves, mine life, and extraction methods) and financial factors (such as commodity prices, discount rates, and taxation). Providing input on the determination of project value and investment attractiveness.

Providing technical expertise and insights to support investment decisions through presenting technical findings and recommendations highlighting key risks and opportunities.

Formulation of a monitoring strategy to assess the technical performance of invested mining projects throughout their lifecycle, including construction, development, and production phases.

Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and permitting requirements for mining operations. Keeping abreast of regulatory changes and developments that may impact investments in the mining sector and advising on compliance strategies.

Conducting research and analysis on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the mining industry. Evaluating new opportunities and innovations that may enhance the technical and financial performance of mining investments.

Engaging with various stakeholders involved in mining projects, including government agencies, traditional leadership, local communities, environmental groups, and industry associations.
Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher qualification in mining, metallurgy, or a related field.

Post graduate qualification in business administration, economics or finance will be an added advantage.

Minimum 10 years relevant work experience with at least 5 years in senior roles.

In-depth knowledge of Zambian mining principles, practices, and techniques.

Proficiency in project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
-
Strong commitment to sustainable mining practices, including conservation of natural resources and environmental stewardship.

Awareness of relevant regulations, policies, and standards governing the mining sector.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Effective communication skills.
