Job Description
Primary Purpose
To report to the Instrumentation Supervisor and ensure the availability and efficient operation of all process plant field instrumentation to minimise production downtime.
Key Responsibilities
-
Adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, quality, finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the role and responsibilities.

Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Zambia.

Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
-
Ensure employees work in compliance with H&S (e.g., isolation, lockout, and tag out), quality, and environmental standards and procedures.

Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Instrumentation Maintenance and Setup
-
Setup, calibrate, and maintain a wide variety of modern field instrumentation related to processing plants, including:
-
Weightometers & Density (Process Automation, Ramsey)
-
pH & Conductivity transmitters
-
Measuring transducers/transmitters
-
Telemetry systems
-
Signal converters
-
Control valves
-
Load-cell mass measuring systems
Installation and Replacement
-
Install and replace new instruments as per the company’s and vendor’s safety and quality standards.
Independent Work and Projects
-
Work with minimal supervision in the area of responsibility.
-
Carry out maintenance work and new projects in the area of responsibility.
Spare Parts and Maintenance
-
Organise spares and ensure availability for maintenance, shutdowns, and breakdowns.
-
Adhere to the company’s planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
Pressure Handling and Communication
-
Able to work under pressure.
-
Fluent in English.
Qualifications
-
Minimum of a Trade or Craft Certificate in Instrumentation or a related field.
Experience
-
Five years’ experience and exposure as an Instrumentation Technician in a Chemical & Mineral Processing Plant.
-
Previous experience in control of Conveyor Systems, Mill Operation & Control, Floatation Circuit, and Thickeners Control will be an advantage.
-
Experience with ABB variable speed drives.
-
Experience with PLCs, preferably Siemens.
-
Experience with Motor Control Siemens SIMOCODE systems.
-
Familiarity with Field Bus systems, specifically Profibus (DP & PA), Modbus, and Profinet.
-
Exceptional skills in field instrumentation, maintenance, fault-finding, and troubleshooting.

Experience with DCS and SCADA systems, preferably Citect SCADA and/or PCS7 systems.
-
Knowledge of fibre (splicing) and Ethernet networks.
