Job Purpose
The Workshop Foreman will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all farm machinery, vehicles, and equipment. This role ensures that all mechanical operations run smoothly and efficiently, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The Workshop Foreman also manages a team of mechanics and ensures adherence to safety standards and maintenance schedules.
Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repairs
-
Oversee and perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of farm machinery, vehicles, and equipment (tractors, harvesters, plows, irrigation systems, etc.).

Ensure timely diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues to minimize operational delays.

Develop and maintain maintenance schedules and ensure compliance.

Team Supervision

Lead, train, and supervise a team of mechanics and technical staff.

Assign tasks, monitor progress, and evaluate team performance.

Ensure that safety protocols are followed in the workshop.

Inventory and Procurement
-
Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables.
-
Coordinate the procurement of parts and equipment, ensuring cost efficiency and quality.

Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, and parts used.

Equipment Management
-
Maintain records and logs for all machinery, including service histories and performance metrics.

Ensure machinery and equipment are kept in optimal working condition.

Recommend replacement or upgrades of machinery when necessary.

Health and Safety Compliance

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the workshop.

Implement safety procedures and provide training to staff on proper equipment handling.

Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop environment.

Reporting and Documentation

Prepare regular reports on workshop activities, machinery status, and repair costs.

Document all maintenance work and repairs for future reference.

Report any major issues to the Farm Manager promptly.
Job Specifications
Qualifications
-
Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.

Additional certifications in machinery maintenance or workshop management are an advantage.
Experience
-
At least
5 years
of experience in a workshop environment, preferably in an agricultural or heavy machinery setting.

Previous experience in a supervisory or foreman role.

Proficient in diagnosing and repairing agricultural machinery and vehicles.

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
